I noticed that 2 years on from when I last installed Ubuntu (Edgy Eft), you still have to install things to get it functional (with regards to media codecs and the like). While I appreciate Ubuntu’s philosophical stand, I think the least they could do was to provide some sort of easy install script to get those restricted codecs. I have heard of the restricted-extras metapackage, but I also heard that it contains open-java instead of the jre from Sun… I’m wondering if I can find a way of installing everything in the restricted package except that… And the w32codecs, the libdvdcss… The list goes on of all the things that should be easily installable (GUI please) upon booting up for the first time.

Hmm, maybe I’ll google around and see if there’s already a way to do that.

One thing I have noticed (I’m definitely not the first) is that the anonymity the internet provides is viewed by most people as a broad license for all sorts of bad behaviour. Flame wars, trolls, spam and everything else. It almost makes you lose hope in the internet…

It never fails to get me riled up when someone responds to a comment or post I made with an ad hominem attack. especially youtube comments… Nuff said…
